Thanks Mom and Dad!

As an early Christmas gift, Mom and Dad had my tonsils and adenoids removed.  Let me tell you, I looked forward to the resting and being left alone.  Boy was I mistake.  This was the most miserable surgery ever!  When I was in recovery, I was already in pain.  I kept murmering for MORPHINE!  The nurse definitely wanted to get rid of me, but I didn't want to leave.  I just wanted to sleep!  Eventually I got home.  The doctor instructed me to drink lots of water and stay well hydrated.  I couldn't even swallow my own saliva, let alone anything else.  Through the course of the week, my pain increased, by Saturday, December 19th, I was in so much pain I was convinced I was going to die.  I had a fever of 100.9 degrees.  I was so bad I couldn't eat, the upside is I fit in a smaller pair of jeans and an I lost 15 pounds.  However, if I were to endure this again, I think I would opt out of having the surgery as an adult.  I was in pain for a solid 2 weeks and didn't feel well enough to leave the house until 18 days post op.  I would have much rather had the surgery as a child.  I would not recommend having an adults tonsils removed.  Yucky and tons of pain!

Please excuse my messy hair and irritated expression - I just had my tonsils removed.

Pepper

This is Pepper, the newest edition to our ever growing animal family.  We are unaware what its gender is ... so I will update when I know.  Dad found "it" at work, Pepper came right up to Dad and was super friendly.  She has been home for two days now and seems to be adjusting well.  I am not a cat person, but Pepper is absolutely adorable and cuddlable.  I am happy that Michelle has a new pet to call her own.

יום כיפור

Last night I attended Erev Yom Kippur services at Temple Israel and this morning for Yom Kippur services. Yom Kippur translates to Day of Atonement and is the most important and most holy of days in the Jewish religion. On Yom Kippur God seals the fate for one's sins and some call it the "Closing of the Gates", symbolizing the last time to repent for one's sins. Yom Kippur is also a day of fast. From last night, when the sun went down, until tonight, when the sun goes down and three stars are present in the sky; is when we can break fast. Yom Kippur is very solomn and repentful. Most stay at temple all day and workship or sleep.
I on the other hand have to miss afternoon services because I have to go to work. So easy fast for those who are fasting.
Yom Tov!

שנה טובה

Shana Tova! A Good Year. Rosh Hashanah is Jewish New Year. This year was different from the past; I was there alone. Though, I was joined by my Jewish brothers and sisters and welcomed by Temple Israel in this time of celebration and rejoice. This is the ''Day of Judgement'' where we pray to God to ask that we may be written in the Good Book. It is customary that services start at sundown of Rosh Hashanah and continue on the next morning. At the end of Rosh Hashanah services Temple Israel hosts a Family Picnic dinner at Oak Grove Park, and engage in Tashlikh services. Tashlikh is where the congregation joins near a body of water: lake, river, pond, etc and casts bread crumbs or pebbles/stones into the water, symbolizing the releasing of sins, grudges, and hurt. It is customary to eat apples and honey to start off with a "sweet" New Year.
Though I am Catholic, I am very close with my Jewish ties and find their holidays spiritually satisfying to my soul.

I Got A Job!

After countless interviews with VARIOUS employers, I FINALLY got a job. I was hired by River Oaks Charter School in Stockton. ROCS as it is more commonly known, is apart of Aspire Charter Schools based in Palo Alto, CA. My position title is After School Tutor. I will be working with 4th/5th graders on their homework, more specifically math. I am so excited to work at the same school I graduated from. I attended River Oaks from 2001-2003, when it was grades K-8. Now the elementary school is K-5. I hope that this is my foot in the door to pursuing education as a career. I am so thankful that I have been blessed with a job in this terrible economy.

Under the Knife

In November 2008 I was diagnosed with stage 3 Endometriosis and Polycystic Ovarian Disease (though we did not know this until later). My gyno told me that he wanted to schedule me for a laparoscopy and D&C as soon as possible. The news came at the most inopprotune time, the week before Grandpa died, so breaking the news to my family would not be easy.

For those of you who are not aware of Endometriosis it was basically explained to me as the following. Endo as it is more commonly know, is a disease that affects women around the world. It is where endometrium grows on the outside of the uterus and attaches to vital organs eventually systematically shutting down major organs. Endo is the leading cause of infertility and has many debilitating symptoms. There is no cure and doctors are unaware of what causes Endo or whether or not it is hereditary. February 26th, I went under the knife of Dr. Hickox and had my procedure. During the procedure, he found Endometriosis on my uterus, ovaries, bladder, intestines, and liver. He also found massive cysts on my ovaries, which the ultrasound did not show.Healing was much to be desired. Since the procedure required my lower abdomin to be pumped with gas, releasing the gas from my body was painful. I have a pretty attractive scared belly button and some other puncture scars. The procedure was rather successful. At the end of the month, I will begin a six month hormone treatment regiment. It will be rough on my system. The goal is to shut down my reproductive system and force it into menopause, which studies have shown to reduce endometriosis.
